How to Import DDGS from USA to India: Documentation & Requirements
February 4, 2025
Importing DDGS from the USA to India requires proper documentation, regulatory compliance, and logistics planning. This guide outlines the key steps and documents needed for a smooth import process, from order placement to port clearance.
Required Documents
Standard documents include: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading (B/L), Certificate of Origin (for preferential duty if applicable), USDA inspection certificate or equivalent, Phytosanitary Certificate, Fumigation certificate (if required), and Quality/Weight certificates. Your importer or Centura Agro can coordinate these with US exporters.
FSSAI and Regulatory Compliance
DDGS as an animal feed ingredient must comply with FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) norms for imported feed materials. Ensure your supplier provides certificates aligned with Indian import requirements. Some ports may require additional clearances; work with a customs broker familiar with agricultural imports.
Logistics and Ports
DDGS is typically shipped in 40ft containers (approx. 24–26 MT net) from US Gulf or East Coast ports to Indian discharge ports such as Mundra, Nhava Sheva, Pipavav, Chennai, and Kolkata. Transit time is usually 35–45 days. Plan for inland movement, container unstuffing, and warehouse storage with proper ventilation to avoid moisture and mold issues.
